Salem Sasquatch Knock Off Holyoke Papermen in Comeback Win

Holyoke, MA- February 15, 2025- In a thrilling back-and-forth contest, the Salem Sasquatch emerged victorious, defeating the Holyoke Papermen 6-4 on Saturday night. The game, which was packed with offense and momentum shifts, saw both teams trade goals in a fierce battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

The Papermen took an early lead, with Jason Diamond opening the scoring at 19:31 of the first period. Diamond, assisted by Camden Cacolice, fired home an even-strength goal to give Holyoke a 1-0 advantage. However, the Sasquatch wasted no time in answering, with Alex Campbell leveling the score at 16:49 with a goal of his own. Kellen Gelinas set up the play for the Sasquatch, and the teams were tied at 1-1. Holyoke regained the lead just minutes later when Robert Kass netted a power-play goal at 11:26, assisted by Cacolice and Diamond. The Papermen held a 2-1 advantage at the end of the opening period.

The second period was a roller coaster of emotions, with Salem taking control in a big way. Holyoke extended its lead to 3-1 at 16:39 when JD Anderson found the back of the net, with Kyle Levere picking up the assist. However, the Sasquatch responded in rapid succession, with goals from Kyle Weeks (15:40) and Kris Cecere (6:30) tying the game at 3-3. Salem wasn’t done yet, as Tucker Twardosky gave the Sasquatch their first lead of the game at 3:08, followed by another goal from Cecere at 2:48. In the span of just over two minutes, Salem had turned a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead.

Salem continued to push forward in the third period, with Campbell scoring his second goal of the game at 13:36 to give the Sasquatch a 6-3 lead. Holyoke’s JD Anderson answered back with his second goal of the night at 7:21, cutting the lead to 6-4, but the Papermen couldn’t mount a comeback despite numerous attempts on net.

Hunter Tetreault was stellar in net for Salem, making 43 saves on 47 shots for a save percentage of .915. On the other side, Griffin Spear of Holyoke recorded 36 saves on 42 shots but couldn’t quite keep up with the Sasquatch’s offensive outburst, finishing with a .857 save percentage.

Looking ahead

Both teams will be back on the ice next weekend closing out their regular seasons. Salem will be home against the Boston Gold Kings. Holyoke will be on the road Friday night when they travel to Boston and back home Saturday against the Norfolk Mallards.
