PPSHL Team Spotlight: Holyoke Papermen

The Holyoke Papermen are set to enter their third year as a team — and their second competing in the Power Play Senior Hockey League — proudly carrying the history of their city into the 2025-26 season. Their name pays tribute to Holyoke, Massachusetts’ paper mill heritage, a legacy that shaped the community for generations.

Leadership & Roster

  • Captain: Doug Sattler (returning from injury, eager to make an impact after being limited to just two games last season)
  • Assistant Captains: Mark Laviolette & Kyle Levere

The Papermen also welcome a strong class of new players this season:
Aiden Matter, Andrew Cassidy, Sean Egan, Max Moriarity, Noah Hemenway, and Quentin Olshan, all of whom add depth and fresh energy across the lineup.

Players to Watch:

  • Doug Sattler – The captain is back and healthy, ready to lead on and off the ice.
  • JD Anderson – A consistent two-way threat with high compete level.
  • Danny Laughlin – Last year’s PPSHL leading scorer, looking to keep his title and continue fueling Holyoke’s offense.

Season Goals & Identity

The Papermen’s focus this season is on building a strong, competitive team that represents Western Mass with pride. Their goals are rooted in hard work, accountability, and teamwork — values that drive their identity both on and off the ice.

With a roster blending returning veterans and new additions, the team feels they have depth at every position, especially in net and on the blue line. Holyoke takes pride in their blue-collar, gritty style of play, competing with full effort for all 60 minutes each night.

Matchups to Watch

The Papermen are circling October 11th on their calendars — their season opener against the Boston Gold Kings, last season’s league champions. With both regional bragging rights and an early-season statement on the line, this matchup promises to be a must-watch game.

Strengths & Outlook

Holyoke’s biggest strength lies in their balanced roster and relentless work ethic. Strong leadership, improving team chemistry, and the backing of passionate fans and local sponsors fuel their drive.

If they can stay healthy and build off last season’s lessons, the Papermen are poised to be a tough out in every matchup and a contender as the season progresses.

Message to the League

“Other teams should know that our squad is built to compete hard every single night. We bring a relentless work ethic, depth across the lineup, and a commitment to playing for each other. We’re a team with grit, leadership, and chemistry, backed by the pride of representing Western Mass.”

The Papermen also believe the PPSHL itself is ready to take a major step forward this year, with stronger competition and a growing reputation for high-level hockey.

Season Expectations & Fan Take

If Holyoke can blend its offensive firepower with more disciplined defensive structure, they’re in a strong position to compete at the top of the PPSHL. The leadership core, combined with steady goaltending, gives them a chance to push deeper into the playoffs.

For the fans, expect thrilling nights at the Olympia Ice Center — close games, big goals, and plenty of drama. The Papermen’s identity is one of grit and excitement, and that will be on full display again this season.
