Loughlin Lights the Lamp Four Times as Holyoke Outlasts Norfolk in 7–6 Thriller
November 8, 2025- New England Sports Village, Attleboro, MA
In one of the wildest games of the PPSHL season so far, Danny Loughlin led the Holyoke Papermen to a 7–6 victory over the Norfolk Mallards on Saturday night at the New England Sports Village.
Loughlin turned in a four-goal, one-assist performance, while linemate Max Moriarty added two goals, including a power-play marker, as Holyoke held off a late Norfolk surge to grab two crucial points. Goalie Zach Valvo stood tall when it mattered most, stopping 41 of 47 shots in the win.
The Papermen came out with speed and purpose. Just 1:50 into the game, Loughlin opened the scoring off a setup from Kyle Levere, and the tone was set.
Midway through the period, Holyoke capitalized on their first power play. Moriarty converted with assists from Doug Sattler and Loughlin, putting the Papermen up 2–0 after twenty minutes.
Holyoke outshot Norfolk 22–16 in the opening frame and looked in total control.
The game turned wild in the second. Norfolk’s Jack Halloran brought the Mallards back to life with a short-handed goal at 7:08, cutting the lead in half.
But Holyoke responded with short-handed magic of their own — Brody Trew buried a breakaway at 15:18 to restore the two-goal cushion.
The Mallards refused to go quietly. Halloran struck again at 18:23, and Kyle Mastroianni followed up just 33 seconds later, tying the game 3–3 before the second intermission.
Momentum had shifted, and the crowd could feel it.
Just 2:48 into the third, he scored his second of the night to put Holyoke ahead again, 4–3. Norfolk answered moments later with a power-play goal from Ben Giovanella, assisted by Halloran and Kody Boyce, knotting things at 4–4.
Then, in a jaw-dropping sequence, Loughlin scored twice more in under a minute — at 5:20 and 6:20 — completing the natural hat trick and putting Holyoke up 6–4. Zack Lillie, Sattler, and Levere all earned assists during the explosive stretch.
Moriarty added another power-play goal at 8:41 to make it 7–4, but the Mallards kept coming. Caden Rakes and Mastroianni both scored late to cut the lead to one, yet Valvo slammed the door in the final minutes to preserve the 7–6 win.
