Reapers Outgun Papermen 10–8 in Wild, High-Scoring Showdown at McCann Ice Arena

December 6, 2025-McCann Ice Arena, Poughkeepsie, NY

The Hudson Valley Reapers and Holyoke Papermen treated fans at McCann Ice Arena to one of the wildest games of the season Saturday night, a penalty-heavy, high-octane clash that ended in a 10–8 victory for Hudson Valley.

The teams combined for 18 goals, 40 penalty minutes, and more than 100 shots on goal in a matchup that swung wildly from special-teams duels to an all-out scoring frenzy. The Reapers held off a third period push from the Papermen and got a dominant performance from their top line to improve their grip on the standings.

The opening frame set the tone early, with both teams trading goals, power plays, and heavy hits. Hudson Valley struck first at 6:32 when Gino Santaguida buried a power-play marker from Trevor Souza. The Reapers doubled their lead three minutes later as Taylor Traenkle converted another man-advantage opportunity, assisted by Souza and Brett Jackson.

Holyoke responded with a surge of its own. Noah Hemenway scored two goals just under two minutes apart—one on the power play from JD Anderson and Max Moriarty, and another at even strength from Danny Loughlin—to tie the game 2–2.

Hudson Valley regained control late in the period. At 15:25, Brett Jackson intercepted a pass and scored shorthanded, set up by Traenkle and Santaguida. With under a minute remaining, Justin Geigel added another at even strength, assisted by Jackson and Edward Cho, sending the Reapers into the intermission ahead 4–2.

Holyoke clawed back within one early in the second when Max Breon converted on the power play. But from there, the Reapers’ depth took over.

Santaguida’s second of the night restored the two-goal cushion at 4:00, and moments later Robert Clerc and Brett Jackson each added goals — Jackson’s coming short-handed, his second special-teams marker of the game. Kyle Canny padded the lead to 8–3 at 17:21 before the Papermen stopped the bleeding with a late-period goal from Quinten Olshan.

The third period turned into a test of composure as both teams continued exchanging goals. Holyoke struck first when JD Anderson scored at 2:08, assisted by Doug Sattler, but the Reapers answered with another power-play goal at 9:30 from Traenkle—his second of the night—assisted by Jackson and Clerc.

Just 13 seconds later, Breon scored again for Holyoke, followed by a Loughlin power-play tally at 16:51, cutting the deficit to 9–7. However, Traenkle responded with his third of the night at 18:05, again set up by Jackson and Clerc.

Loughlin added one more for Holyoke in the final minute, assisted by Anderson and Sattler, but Hudson Valley held firm to close out the 10–8 win.
